Today in the United States we celebrate V-J Day which marks victory over Japan by the Allied Forces in World War 2.

The war ended weeks earlier on August 14th when the Japanese Emperor announced the country’s surrender. On September 2nd, 1945 aboard the Missouri, Commander of the Allied Forces Army Gen. Douglas MacArthur signed the Instrument of Surrender for the United Nations and Fleet Adm. Chester Nimitz signed for the United States. Both were five-star officers.

We remember all of the American sacrifices and lives lost during the duration of the war and take this time to pay tribute to them. Because of them, our freedoms remain protected.
