Richard Andrew “Drew” Winkler. A1C, USAF – Drew was a loving son, loyal brother and friend but most of all an amazing Daddy. Growing up he was the life of the party and never met a stranger; always the jokester. He completed his Associates degree before even graduating from High School. While stationed at Aviano Italy, he volunteered to deploy to Iraq and then while in Iraq volunteered for Host National escort duties. The young man who returned was completely different. The twinkle in his eye was gone and simply being around people he didn’t know or crowds caused him extreme anxiety and fear. He fought with the VA for five years to get the mental health care he needed without success. On Memorial Day, May 30th 2016, he lost to the demons he fought in his head everyday. His last post on Facebook at 5:06am, May 30th was, “1 of 22 per day… Whey can’t they just help us… goodbye”. All too soon this amazing young man and beautiful soul was gone. He had no idea just how many lives he had touched and changed, nor did we until hundreds of people attended his memorial service. Our world is so much dimmer without him in it. ~ Drew’s Mom
