SAVE22 ® – First Responder & Veteran Suicide Awareness & Prevention

raising awareness

SAVE22 ® is a registered 501(c)(3) organization, focused on fighting veteran, active duty & first responder suicide. We stand shoulder to shoulder with the men and women who have served our country and the communities within. We listen to their stories and remind them that they are never alone or forgotten. When they are struggling with the demons of their past, we support and guide them to healing.

THE SAVE22® MISSION

To provide outreach and support programs to military veterans and first responders in the fight to end suicide.

Our mission is to provide support, assistance, volunteers, and education services to veterans and first responders who are at risk of suicide. We believe that by working together with local organizations and community leaders, we can make a real difference in the lives of those who have served our country.

In short, we S.A.V.E.

Who & Why

According to reports, the rates for the active-duty individual services per 100,000 were 23 for the Army, 23.1 for the Marine Corps, 14.4 for the Air Force and 13.4 for the Navy.

The Veterans Administration statistics confirm that 22 veterans die by suicide every day on American soil.

The total number of those losing their battle grows larger with each day outreach and treatments are not able to be done.

THE SAVE22® VISION

We are dedicated to raising awareness about suicide prevention among veterans and first responders. We believe that suicide is preventable, and we are committed to providing resources and support to those who are struggling with suicidal thoughts or behaviors.

In order to accomplish our vision, we strive to reach as many veterans, active-duty personnel, first responders, and adjacent family members as possible. We welcome the opportunity to offer awareness, prevention, and outreach to communities and we do our best to meet the needs and requests of the organizations that reach out to us.

In short, with H.O.P.E.

H.O.P.E.

  • Hike – The annual hike held on the first Saturday in May, which is recognized as Veteran’s Suicide Awareness Day in Ohio, is to allow everyone to honor their loved ones, whether it has been a loss or a survivor, and to raise awareness to others fighting their demons, that they have someone to turn to. The veteran, first responder, and local communities come together each year to give their support and sometimes the closure many have been looking for.

  • Outreach – In our family, we are your loyal brothers, sisters, and confidantes who provide support and resources when the struggle with PTSD, depression, and anxiety becomes overwhelming. Day or night, our members have spoken with, traveled to, and transported brother or sister in the throes of internal conflict.

  • Programs – Characteristically, we design our programs to be small, informal groups of usually, 4-8 participants at a time, with an occasional exception. Although some of our programs are at larger venues, there will always be someone willing to step outside the crowd for private time.

  • Events – Events are the foundation of our outreach. This enables us to reach communities. Events are the primary source of the majority of our impacts and assists. We aim to be available at events that cater to our targeted demographic.

Salutes from our SAVES

“What started out as a Marine wanting to take a walk…”

Tom Indorf

“As someone who battles severe anxiety, unplugging from society is my go-to form of meditation. Sometimes just walking around our property looking for mushrooms or sassafras, and just focusing on the green space around me is enough to calm my racing thoughts and heart. Other times, it’s just not far enough away and I need to retreat to more primitive spaces. A weekend in the mountains has renewed my inner peace and given me strength to keep going more than a few times.”

SAVE22® provided me purpose when I thought I had none.

Jason Rutledge

SAVE22® gave me the mission and the purpose to help other veterans discover their own mission and purpose.

Nick Trussell

SAVE22® gave me hope when I thought all was lost.

Brandon Cannon

SAVE22® pulled me out of my deepest hole.

Justin Christner

SAVE22® came into my life right after losing a fellow veteran. I was struggling with survivors’ guilt, alcohol issues and pills. This group of people changed my life and gave me purpose. They accepted me with zero judgement and helped me through. I am definitely a better person because of SAVE22® and what we can do together.

Albert Woodin

“I myself, have used art as a way to express my emotions for many years. Over the last few years, I have used art as a productive outlet when words were not enough or too much to even speak. I now use art not only for myself, but to help others. In 2018 SAVE22® helped save me and I now use my art to design many different aspects to help SAVE22® save others as they saved me!”

Andrew Burgan

SAVE22® showed me that by listening we can speak volumes to those in need.  It has also unlocked a gift and passion I did not know I had.
