raising awareness

SAVE22®, a registered 501©(3) organization, wholeheartedly dedicates itself to combating suicide among veterans, active-duty personnel, and first responders. We stand shoulder to shoulder with those who have selflessly served our nation and local communities. By actively listening to their stories, we ensure that they are never alone or forgotten. When they grapple with the haunting shadows of their past, we provide unwavering support and guide them toward healing.

To provide outreach and support programs to military veterans and first responders in the fight to end suicide.

Our unwavering mission extends to four critical pillars:

  • Shield – By actively shielding veterans and first responders from harmful suicidal ideologies and tendencies, we strive to create a resilient support system that empowers these brave individuals to overcome adversity and find hope.

  • Assist – In our tireless efforts to foster positive relationships with organizations supporting this cause, we aim to offer assistance to those seeking help.

  • Volunteer – With unwavering commitment, we strive to create outreach programs that reach individuals at risk of suicide—especially those who may not know where to seek help.

  • Educate – Our focus lies in empowering local organizations and community leaders. We provide comprehensive training and resources for suicide prevention.

the SAVE22 ® vision

H.O.P.E.

We are wholeheartedly dedicated to raising awareness about suicide prevention among veterans and first responders. Our unwavering belief is that suicide is preventable, and we remain committed to providing essential resources and unwavering support to those who grapple with suicidal thoughts or behaviors.

In pursuit of our vision, we strive to reach as many veterans, active-duty personnel, first responders, and adjacent family members as possible. We wholeheartedly embrace the opportunity to offer awareness, prevention, and outreach to communities. Our utmost priority is to meet the unique needs and requests of the organizations that seek our assistance.

In short, we operate with H.O.P.E.:

  • Hike – Every year, on the first Saturday in May—recognized as Veteran’s Suicide Awareness Day in Ohio, we organize an annual hike. This event allows everyone to honor their loved ones, whether they have experienced loss or are survivors. It also raises awareness for those battling their inner demons, reminding them that they are not alone. Veterans, first responders, and local communities come together, offering support and sometimes the closure many seek.

  • Outreach – Within our family, we stand as loyal brothers, sisters, and confidantes. When the struggle with PTSD, depression, and anxiety becomes overwhelming, we step in. Day or night, our members have engaged in conversations, traveled to be by someone’s side, and provided transportation for brothers and sisters in the throes of internal conflict.

  • Programs – Our programs are thoughtfully designed as small, informal groups—usually consisting of 4-8 participants at a time, with occasional exceptions. While some programs take place at larger venues, there will always be someone willing to step outside the crowd for private, one-on-one time.

  • Events – The foundation of our outreach lies in events. These gatherings allow us to connect with communities directly. Events serve as the primary source of our impact and assistance. We actively participate in events that cater to our targeted demographic, ensuring that our message reaches those who need it most.

BE INSPIRING

join us in honoring our heroes

Every year, the community comes together to mark a day of remembrance and solidarity. On the first Saturday in May, we observe Veteran’s Suicide Awareness Day in Ohio, a day dedicated to honoring the memory of those we’ve lost and supporting those who continue to fight their personal battles.

Our Annual Memorial Hike is more than just a physical journey; it’s a pilgrimage of the heart. Each step taken is a step toward healing, a step alongside those who understand the weight of sacrifice. It’s a day where stories are shared, tears are shed, and laughter echoes through the trails — a testament to the enduring spirit of our loved ones.

a day of awareness and healing
  • For the Lost: We hike to remember the brave souls whose lives were cut short. We carry their names, their pictures, and their memories with us, ensuring that their legacy marches on with every mile we cover.

  • For the Survivors: We hike to stand with our veterans and first responders who have endured the unthinkable. This hike is a reminder that their courage and resilience inspire us all.

  • For the Struggling: We hike to reach out to those who are silently battling their inner demons. You are not alone on this journey. We are here, walking beside you, ready to listen and support you.

  • For the Community: We hike to strengthen the bonds within our local communities. It’s a chance for civilians and service members alike to connect, share experiences, and offer each other the kind of support that can only come from unity.

together, we make a difference

The hike is symbolic of the larger journey many of our veterans and first responders face. It’s a safe space where barriers are broken down, and understanding is built. By participating, you’re not just raising awareness; you’re offering a hand to those in need and sometimes, that’s the closure many seek.

Salutes from our SAVES

“What started out as a Marine wanting to take a walk…”

Tom Indorf

“I myself, have used art as a way to express my emotions for many years. Over the last few years, I have used art as a productive outlet when words were not enough or too much to even speak. I now use art not only for myself, but to help others. In 2018 SAVE22® helped save me and I now use my art to design many different aspects to help SAVE22® save others as they saved me!”

Andrew Burgan

“As someone who battles severe anxiety, unplugging from society is my go-to form of meditation. Sometimes just walking around our property looking for mushrooms or sassafras, and just focusing on the green space around me is enough to calm my racing thoughts and heart. Other times, it’s just not far enough away and I need to retreat to more primitive spaces. A weekend in the mountains has renewed my inner peace and given me strength to keep going more than a few times.”

B

SAVE22® gave me the mission and the purpose to help other veterans discover their own mission and purpose.

Nick Trussell

SAVE22® gave me hope when I thought all was lost.

Brandon Cannon

SAVE22® showed me that by listening we can speak volumes to those in need.  It has also unlocked a gift and passion I did not know I had.

John Moser

SAVE22® came into my life right after losing a fellow veteran. I was struggling with survivors’ guilt, alcohol issues and pills. This group of people changed my life and gave me purpose. They accepted me with zero judgement and helped me through. I am definitely a better person because of SAVE22® and what we can do together.

Albert Woodin

SAVE22® provided me purpose when I thought I had none.

Jason Rutledge

SAVE22® pulled me out of my deepest hole.
